The Challenge
Somalia’s service ecosystem is fragmented, requiring citizens to repeatedly present physical documents and undergo manual verification across different institutions. This creates:
• low digital trust
• slow service delivery
• duplicated processes
• poor user experience
The challenge was to design a trusted national identity experience that simplifies verification, protects user data, and works as a unified gateway for multiple public services.
The Solution
I designed a mobile-first digital identity platform built around:
• a guided and transparent verification flow
• secure authentication and facial verification
• real-time identity status visibility
• an activity log for institutional accountability
• a centralized profile as the single source of truth
• direct integration with government e-services
The onboarding experience was strategically structured to educate users, communicate security, and demonstrate value before requesting sensitive data — increasing trust and completion rates.
A scalable design system ensures consistency, accessibility, and future service expansion.

The Result
The proposed product experience:
• reduces bureaucratic repetition
• increases citizen trust in digital services
• accelerates verification and service access
• improves institutional efficiency
• creates a scalable infrastructure for Somalia’s e-government
This project positions digital identity as the core platform for future public service delivery, transforming verification into a seamless, user-controlled, and transparent experience.
